COVID-19: KPA worker dies as national tally of infected hits 197

A Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) worker is the latest person to succumb to COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number of Coronavirus related deaths to eight.

The KPA employee died in Siaya County days after travelling with wife and two daughters from Mombasa.

According to police reports, James Oyugi Onyango traveled from Mombasa on 5th April and spent the night in Nairobi. He was involved in a minor accident at Awasi on the 6th of April and spent the night in Kisumu.

“On 07-04-2020 he arrived at Ukwala using his brothers vehicle, and since 07-04-2020 he has been indoors,” read the police report in part.

The deceased started coughing at 10 am on the 10th of April and was rushed to Matibabu Foundation Private Hospital where he died at 7pm.

“On 11-04-2020 blood specimen was taken to KEMRI Kisumu, results were positive,” the report continues to read.

Body of the deceased was disinfected and buried on Saturday night.

So far 197 people in the country have been infected with the disease.

Eight have died while 25 have recovered from the disease.
