The County Government of Nairobi has issued a seven day ultimatum to interested members of the public to identify and collect unclaimed bodies of their loved ones at city mortuary or they get disposed.

According to Health County Executive Committee Member Hitan Majevdia who was addressing the press on COVID-19 prevention and control, the move is to de-congest the mortuary that is almost full due to unclaimed bodies.

“Pursuant to public Health act Cap 242( subsidiary;Public Health ( Public Mortuaries) Rule,1991)(2). Interested members of the public are asked to identify and collect unclaimed bodies before 31 March 2020, failure to which the county government will be seeking  authority for disposal, ” said Majevdia.

He said only bodies with police cases will be exempted in the mortuary.

The County of Nairobi has been on toes to ensure disinfection and decontamination of main streets of the Central Business District (CBD), and markets.

The move comes amid the deadly corona virus that has continued to bite hard in the country with 25 confirmed cases as of today 24 March 2020.
