Suspected drug trafficker shot dead in Likoni

A suspected drug trafficker was on Wednesday night shot dead during a raid in a suspected drug store in Vyemani area of Likoni sub-county.

According to a statement issued by police, trouble started after two men believed to be accomplices of the deceased fired at police officers who were cordoning off the house at 10.00 pm.

“As they cordoned off the house believed to be a narcotics drug store in Vyemani area of Likoni, they heard two gunshots,” the statement says.

A police officer attached to Changamwe police station was shot sustaining an ankle injury before the officers fired back fatally injuring the deceased who has been identified as Alias Kapoli.

However, police say his two accomplices escaped through the roof of the house together with the firearm.

During the raid, 140 rolls of bhang, seven knives,12 syringes, a motorcycle and two sniffing apparatus were recovered.

In another operation, police recovered 550 grams of what police believe is heroin.

The suspected heroin was in two separate packets with police believing that 500 grams of the substance iS raw heroine while police believe 50 grams of the substance is refined heroin.

Nine mobile phones and two dark pellets believed to be Hashish were also recovered during the raid.

The operation just comes less than 6 months after a female police officer attached to the Likoni police station was arrested in connection with a drug haul worth sh. 18 million.

The police officer identified as Hamdi Yusuf Maalim who had been cohabiting with another drug suspect, Said Mohammed Abdalla alias Shuaz is believed to have been distributing the narcotics in Garissa county.

According to the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada), there are more than 500,000 drug addicts in Mombasa county.
