A power blackout has paralyzed services at the Msambweni hospital weeks after the backup generator blew off.
The situation has further been worsened by the nonfunctional power generational which blew up a few weeks ago.
A spot check by Baraka FM showed that the ICU wards the theatre and the X-ray unit, the mortuary are among those affected by the power blackout.
According to the Hospital Public relations officer Adam Chigamba, the power blackout started on Wednesday evening after the transformer supplying power to the facility fell.
“The KPLC office in Likoni has said they are working round the clock to try to restore power services,” Chigamba said.
This blackout comes just less than a week after the Kwale governor Salim Mvurya and his deputy Fatma Achani made an impromptu visit to the hospital over several power outages that had brought services in the hospital to their knees.
“ I apologize for failed mortuary services here and assure residents that everything is being done to restore the services. For now, bodies will be taken to the Kwale county hospital mortuary” Achani said.
The power blackout had forced staff at the hospital to refer patients to Kinondo and Nice view medical services, referrals which the governor banned.
The governor said that a tender to buy a new generator had been fronted.
