A debt collection mission in Kabiemit village of Nandi sub-county over the weekend turned deadly after a 71 year old man sustained fatal injuries.
The deceased who has been identified as Isaac Kipkemboi died while being rushed to the Moi teaching and referral hospital.
Trouble for the deceased started after he went to try intervening in a fight between his son Gilbert Kimutai and one Nelson Kirwa.
Kirwa had earlier stormed into the compound demanding to be paid sh 1600 which Gilbert allegedly owed him.
“That is when the father of Gilbert Kimutai namely Isaac Kipkemboi Terer a Nandi m/a aged 71 years intervened and in the cause, he (Mzee Isaac Kipkemboi) was kicked on the head by the said officer and fell down unconsciously” Reads a police signal seen by Baraka FM.
Kirwa who is a police officer attached to Ruaraka police station was off duty when the incident occurred.
Area assistant chief Wilson Maiyo confirmed the incident.
The body of the deceased is currently at the Moi Teaching and Referral hospital awaiting an autopsy while the officer has been arrested to assist in investigations.
