Police in Kisauni and Nyali Sub -counties Mombasa, have arrested 11 criminal suspects following a gang attack that left 10 people injured on Sunday morning.

Kisauni OCPD   Julius  Kiragu told Baraka FM that the suspects aged between 15-25 years are  believed to be behind criminal activities in the area.

“The information we have is that the 11 suspects are members of a criminal gang named Wakali kwanza which has been terrorizing residents and they will be arraigned in court” he said.

A gang of 10 members armed with machete and knives attacked residents in Kisauni and Nyali on Sunday morning leaving them with deep cuts.

Kiragu said that eight people among those attacked by the gang members had received treatment and were discharged while two are currently admitted at Coast Provincial general hospital but in stable condition.

“A lot of crime occurs in this area when schools are closed and those involved are minors. We believe the reason why they are involved in criminal activities is to look for money to buy mogoka” he said.

Kiragu further said the unwillingness of residents in Bamburi and Kisauni areas to share information with security forces was hampering efforts to clamp down on the criminal gang.

“We will take the suspects to court and request for more days to enable us complete investigations. All the suspects involved in the attack must face the full force of the law” he said.

Some of the suspects who were identified by a police informer during an identification parade were arrested in their homes.

No weapons were recovered from the suspects.
