Police in Mombasa County have gunned down two suspected gangsters in Mikindani.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning.

Police claim the two were gunned down a few hours after they shot dead a 24-year-old man identified as Luganje Safari at Changamwe roundabout.

Mombasa county police commander Johnstone Ipara said they recovered a Ceska pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition from the suspects.

‘Security personnel within Mombasa will not allow criminals to attack innocent residents ‘said Ipara.

Ipara said the two were among criminals that have been terrorizing residents in Mikindani, Changamwe and other areas in Mombasa.

Police also recovered a notebook from one suspect with the name Simon Kinyua written on it.

However, human rights activists in Mombasa who claim to have made a report to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to investigate a case of extrajudicial killing have poked holes into the incident claiming Simon Kinyua is the name of one of the suspects who was killed.

“Haki Africa raises queries too on the reports of the death of Simon Kinyua who has now been reported dead twice with one indicating he was killed in Rabai” A statement issued by Haki Africa queried.

The bodies of the deceased are lying at Coast General Hospital mortuary.
