Nyumba Kumi official hacked to death in Lamu

A Nyumba Kumi official was on Monday night hacked to death by unknown people in Lamu county.

The incident happened in Mbwajumwali village of Kizingitini in Lamu East Sub County.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim who has been identified as 25-year-old Amina Bakari was at her shop when the attackers struck.

The attackers then proceeded to hack her killing her on the spot.

The deceased also volunteered with the Lamu branch of the Kenya Red Cross Society.

According to the Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri who confirmed the incident, the deceased was closing her shop when the attackers struck.

Kanyiri added that police had begun an investigation to ascertain who was behind the murder and their motive.

However civil activists in the county have condemned her murder and urged security officials to bring her murderers to book.

“It’s sad that a gang attacked her with pangas to death. I condemn this heinous act with the strongest voice possible. Let the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI and National Police Service investigate this matter conclusively and arrest the perpetrators of this act.”Francis Mugo the chairman of Coast Youths for Transformational Change said on Tuesday.

However, a section of women is Lamu expressed worry at the growing number of femicide cases terming her murder as not an exception.

“ Its quite sad the women are losing their lives day in day out. The deceased was a hard working woman who lived peacefully with her neighbors and hence we are calling upon the security arms to bring to book those responsible for this act” Raya Famau Ahmed from Sauti ya Wanawake in Lamu said on Tuesday.
