Cement manufacturing firm Mombasa Cement has bagged the best new entrant in the recently concluded Energy Management Awards.
The firm won the award in the category of large energy consumers during the 15th edition of the awards that were held on Friday last week.
This is the second year in a row the firm is clinching an award in energy management however last year, the firm clinched three awards; 1st runners up in the overall energy management category, and the winner of the best energy management team award and the Sustained high-performance award.
However, the firm which had been nominated in the overall energy management award failed to clinch the award that saw Kenya Breweries limited emerge as overall winners while the overall renewable energy award went to Strathmore University.
Another winner from the region is Krystalline salt which manufactures Kaysalt.
The firm won the best new entrant in the Small and medium consumer’s category.
The awards were launched in 2004 by the GEF-KAM Energy Efficiency Project, a predecessor of Centre of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (CEEC).
The theme of the awards was Creating excellence in energy efficiency.
