Two Cuban doctors have been abducted by Al Shabaab militants in Mandera.

The two were ambushed by Al Shabaab militants at around 9:20 am while on their way to work.

Police spokesperson Charles Owino has confirmed the incident saying the County vehicle which was transporting the two medics to their work station was blocked by Al Shabaab militia in two Toyota Probox vehicles.

One of the Administration Police (AP) officers guarding the doctors was shot during the ambush and died on the spot.

Kenya Defense forces are pursuing the militants who have successful crossed into Somalia.

Owino said police have recovered the county vehicle which was being used to transport the medics, and are holding the driver for investigations.
