A family in Maungu,Taita Taveta county, is currently mourning the loss of their 12 year old daughter who sucumbed to her injuries after being attacked by a stray lion.

The girl who has been identified as Asha Mohamed, was a class 7 student at Marasi primary school in the county.

According eye witnesses, the deceased sustained head injuries after the lion pounced on her.

The lion had earlier attacked a neighbour who is currently nursing serious injuries at Moi refferal hospital in Voi.

The lion is suspected to have strayed from the nearby Tsavo West National Park.

This comes less than a month of after elephants caused a trail destruction following a three day raid in villages around Miasenyi, approximately 22 Kilometres from the site of Thursday’s attack.

According to Rofus Mwamburi,a villager who spoke to Baraka FM after the raid, three jumbos destroyed his crop before proceeding to break his water tank.

“Our calls for help to the Kenya Wildlife Service during the three-day raid went unanswered” Mwamburi told Baraka FM.

It is not yet clear if the stray lion has been captured as our calls to the Kenya Wildlife Service by the time of publishing this story had not been answered.

The body of the deceased is currently at the Moi Refferal Hospital in Voi.
