Confederation of African football CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has been denied entry to the United State of America.

Ahmad who comes from Madagascar was scheduled to attend world football governing body FIFA council meeting on Friday only to be denied visa under unclear circumstances.

The decision has raised eyebrows since the United States Government does not prohibit travel by Malagasy citizens.

The Malagasy who is a key ally of FIFA president Gianni Infantino is now likely to miss the meeting with his deputy set to replace him.

Ahmad would have been one of the important voices of support for Infantino’s global calendar plan.

Infantino is hoping to increase the number of teams due to take part in the World cup from 32 to 48, bringing forward by four years an expansion which has already been set for the 2026 finals.

The United States is set to host the World Cup in 2026 alongside Mexico and Canada.
