Parliament to vote on 2/3 gender rule

Nairobi, KENYA: Parliament is this afternoon expected to vote on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill,(National Assembly Bill No. 4 of 2018), popularly known as the 2/3 Gender Bill.

The Bill which is currently on its Second Reading requires a support of at least 2/3 of Members (233) to pass.

The Bill whose debate had been concluded earlier, is expected to be voted on after the Speaker invites the Leader of the Majority Party to respond to issues raised during the debate.

Being a Constitutional Amendment Bill, the bill will thereafter be introduced in the Senate for consideration, where a similar threshold of 2/3 of the House Membership is required for the bill to sail through.
