Kenyan honored at the Global Water Leadership Congress

A Kenyan has been honored at the Global Water Leadership Congress and Awards that was held in India between on Sunday and Monday.

Mbaruku Vyakweli, who hails from Likoni, Mombasa County was conferred as one of ’51 Most Impactful and Influential Leaders in Water Sector’ in the world, for the year 2019.

Vyakweli who works with Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company ltd, served as African Water Association (AfWA) Vice President for Scientific and Technical Council (STC) from March 2016 up to February 2018.

He was elected to the International Steering Committee of the UNHABITAT’s Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance (GWOPA) consecutively for a two- term period of three years each till 2016.

During this period he was instrumental in the growth of Water Operators Partnership (WOPs) initiative that saw water utilities in Africa bench marking with counterparts within the continent.

He contributed immensely in successful hosting of the International Water Association (IWA) 3RD Development Congress in 2013 and 18th Africa Water Association (AfWA) International Congress & Exhibition-2016 in Nairobi respectively.

He is currently, re-elected for the second term last November 2017, an Alternate Governor of the World Water Council (WWC) Board of Governors (BoG) and also an Advisory Board Member of the Geneva based Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health (GIWEH).

The World Water Leadership Congress & Awards organizes the annual meet with the objective of recognizing leaders who have contributed value to the world and make a difference.
