Mombasa, KENYA: Kisauni politician who went missing on Friday afternoon has been found.

Mohamed Farid who went missing on Friday after being taken in handcuffs by unknown men from a cyber café in Nyali was found in Nairobi.

According to Farid, the thugs took sh.50,000 that he had on him and his watch.

“They wanted to ask for ransom for my freedom but after they realized my phones were left at the cyber café, they drugged me instead,” said Farid at a press briefing in Nyali.

“When I came to, I was in Nairobi. After I was freed, I went to Kasarani police station to report and contacted my family to tell them I was safe. I later took the 9:30pm bus back home,” he added.

Speaking during the briefing, Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki urged the public to be careful as such an incident could happen to anyone anywhere.

“Our security agencies should be more vigilant. How can someone be taken from a place like Nyali, during the day and 24 hours later no details about the kidnappers is known?” The Senator questioned.

Mombasa based human rights group Haki Africa has urged the public to cooperate with police to avert such incidents from taking place.

“We have received complaints of people being forcefully taken. We want to appeal to the police particularly the police commander to follow up on such cases,” said Haki Africa’s Executive Director Hussein Khalid.

“Please use your mobile phones to record when such incidents take place because we want to get to know who are these picking people and taking them to undisclosed places,” he added.
