5 cases confirmed in Tana River measles outbreak

Tana River, KENYA: Five out seventy-four suspected cases have tested positive for the measles outbreak in the Tana North sub-County of Tana River County.

Speaking on phone, Kenya Red Cross Society manager in the county Mr. Jerald Bombe told Baraka Fm that 69 cases were yet to be confirmed.

Mr. Bombe said that a joint team of health officers from the National and county governments are on the ground to see how to combat the outbreak.

According to the KRCS boss, the joint team was working on a report that would be out after the completion of the team efforts.

Chifiri area was named among others to have been affected by the disease epidemic.

“According to information from my grassroots officers and Health department is that we have got sixty-nine suspected cases and five confirmed cases in the Tana North region.

Formerly the executive for health department Ms. Mwanajuma Mabuke had said that there was an outbreak of the disease while thirty suspected cases had been submitted their health records.
