Mombasa,KENYA:A middle-aged man on Tuesday shocked a court in Mombasa after claiming that a police officer advised him to escape from police custody.
Hamisi Mohammed who was on Tuesday charged with attempting to escape from custody while being escorted from court cells told the court that it was police constable Stephen Kaikai who was escorting him who told him.
‘Your honour I have been in remand for the past three years and its the police officer who told me to leave’ said Hamisi.
Hamisi who is facing two defilement cases which are still pending in court is said to have committed the offense on 17th December 2018.
The accused denied the charges before Mombasa Chief magistrate Julius Nang’ea.
The court directed Hamisi to be detained at Shimo la Tewa prison pending hearing of the case scheduled for the 22nd of January 2019.
