A storm is brewing in the Wiper Democratic Movement after a section of legislators drawn from the party dared Makueni governor prof Kivutha Kibawana to resign and leave the party for what they term disparaging the stature of party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in what could prove to a clash between the MPs and governor.

In a press conference at parliamentary buildings, led by minority leader Robert Mbui , Kitui senator Enoch Wambua and Mwingi central mp Gideon Mulyungi dared Kibwana to resign from the party accusing him of exhibiting disparaging tendencies that undermine Musyoka.

They  MPs also accused other governors including Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and Charity Ngilu of scheming to undermine Kalonzo in the region saying they were fronting one of them to run for the presidency come 2022.

“Infact one of the things they have said is that in 2022, they can together file a presidential candidate. We want to tell them, don’t even wait, start your campaigns, but in 2022, our region has a candidate because we have a person that we believe in,” Mbui said

They warned that if Kibwana will keep on following that path, he risks summons by the National Executive council of the party which ultimately will strip him not only his chairmanship but party membership.

“We are going to convene our National executive council meeting with one single intention, of summoning him, to appear before NEC and explain to us on what is going on, and if he doesn’t turn up, we shall follow the party constitution to the letter and ensure  that party position is left vacant,”Mbui said

They also slammed Ngilu for hiding behind Kitui MCAS tussle with her which has been rocking her county for quite a while.

It is not yet clear who the governors will front however, Makueni governor Kibutha Kibwana has recently become a darling of many owing to his development track record while the Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has been nursing presidential ambition since his first term in office.
