Olympic champion and Berlin Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Male Athlete of the Year 2018.
Kipchoge was feted on Tuesday night at an awards ceremony in Monaco.
Kipchoge becomes the second Kenyan athlete to bag the award after the 800m race Champion David Rudisha.
The 34 year old broke a new World record in Berlin in September when he ran at his time best of 2:01:39 seconds smashing the previous best time by an incredible 78 seconds.
The greatest marathon runner of the modern era has notched up 10 wins from the 11 marathons he has raced, winning three times not only in Berlin but also London, with victories in Rio for Olympic gold as well as in Hamburg, Rotterdam and Chicago.
Deputy President William Ruto is among the dignitaries who congratulated Eliud Kipchoge following his award.
“Congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge for being named IAAF Male Athlete of the Year 2018 at awards ceremony in Monaco. A legend of the game, Kipchoge deserves the highest accolade for his prowess, consistency, tact, endurance, dominance and strength of character,” the DP tweeted.
