Security guard killed in Likoni shoot out

Mombasa, KENYA: A security guard manning Likoni Housing cooperative was on Tuesday shot dead by a gang.

Speaking to Baraka FM on phone Likoni OCPD Benjamin Rotich said a three-armed gang involved police in a shootout.

‘The attackers were armed with an AK 47 riffle during the incident’, said Rotich.

According to a Police statement seen by Baraka FM, the three men had started shooting randomly killing the deceased and injuring another security guard.

The deceased security guard has been identified as  Daniel Etyang while the injured has been identified as Julius Oswati who was shot on his knee.

The two security guards are employed by Mokam security.

A police officer who was at the scene during the attack did not sustain injuries, however, his firearm an AK-47 got damaged after it was struck by a bullet from the attacker according to the police statement

Police have initiated a search for the attackers who escaped after the incident.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the Coast Provincial General Hospital Mortuary.
