Police gun down two robbery suspects in Ganjoni

Mombasa, KENYA: Police on Saturday gunned down two suspects in a garage in Express area of Mombasa.

The two suspects are suspected to have been planning to commit a crime in the area when they were accosted by police officers.

According to the Mombasa county commander Johnstone Ipara who confirmed the incident, one of the suspects had attempted to fire at the police officers who fired at him.

“When they were accosted, one of the suspects rushed to his vehicle and brandished an AK-47 gun which he used to fire at police officers before he was overpowered,” Ipara said.

Ipara added that police had traced the AK-47 gun which is expected to be subjected to ballistic tests to an incident where a businessman was robbed sh. 1.2 million a few months ago along the Nation –Ferry road.

Two suspects managed to escape during the incident.

Police recovered a hammer with blood stains which police suspect the suspects have been using to torture their victims with, three phones, four nylon bags and a nylon rope.

According to area residents, one of the suspects identified as Caleb Mariga had been working as a mechanic in the area before he quit and later resurfaced claiming that he was motor vehicle broker.
