Mother arrested for selling her 8-month-old baby

Mombasa,KENYA: Police in Mombasa have arrested the mother of an 8- month- old baby who went missing from her home on Thursday 8 November in Mshomoroni area of Kisauni Sub-county 

She is accused of selling her baby and is currently being held at Nyali Police station.

Addressing the press at Nyali Police station, Mombasa county Police commander Johnston Ipara, said Baby Consolata Wambui was found in  Molo on Friday.

She had been missing for three weeks.

According to Ipara, two other suspects Susan Nyambura, 50 and Margaret Wairimu, 35, were arrested while masquerading as grandmother and mother to the missing child.

” Nyambura and Wairimu were passing off as the Mother and grandmother to the child before detectives pounced on them”, said Ipara.

Ipara says the mother Joyce Wairimu, 38, was arrested after the incident and she will be charged in court once investigations are complete.

“Police deployed the use of technology to trace where the child was. We have arrested three suspects including the mother’, he said.

The family had offered a cash reward of sh. 100,000 for anyone with information as to her whereabouts.

The accused had earlier refused to comment after the baby was found.
