Four injured in Tawakal bus accident in Lamu

Lamu, KENYA: Four people were on Tuesday evening injured after a Lamu bound Tawakal bus slid and rolled severally at Katsaka Kairu area in Witu, Lamu West.

The accident is said to have been caused by the muddy state of the road resulting from light rains that had been pounding the area recently.

Passengers said the bus, which was coming from Mombasa, was speeding on the extremely slippery road and that efforts to ask the driver to slow down were futile.

“Even when we started screaming, nothing seemed to bother him, you would think he had planned to get us into this accident,” said one of the passengers, Halima Omar.

Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri confirmed the incident.

“We are aware of the accident that injured four. We didn’t have any fatalities.Those injured have already been treated and allowed to go home,” said Kanyiri.

The accidents comes just a month after a Nairobi bound Simba Coach bus was involved in a head on collision with a Lorry ferrying sand at Witu injuring five.
