Nairobi, KENYA: Traders at Gikomba are counting losses after a Wednesday dawn fire razed down part of the market, for the second time this year.

The fire which is said to have started at 2am is the seventh fire incident at the market since 2012.

Cause of the fire which burned down property of unknown amount is yet to be known.

Reports have it that no one was injured during the incident.

In June this year, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko promised to find a lasting solution to the perennial fires in Gikomba market after a 15 people died while 70 others were injured when fire broke in the residential side of the market.

Several fires have gutted the market with leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017, ordering investigations into the cause of the fires.
