Nairobi, KENYA: The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary General Seth Panyako has been arrested.

Panyako was arrested on Monday morning over claims of inciting health workers at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to go on strike.

The union leader was arrested at KNH where he was to address KNUN members who were protesting over what they term as insecurity after one of the nurses at the hospital was allegedly assaulted by an angry patient.

Doctors and nurses at the referral hospital downed their tools following the incident, where a nurse at the facility was allegedly attacked by a mother of a 17-year-old boy who died at the hospital, a couple of weeks ago.

Panyako was arrested alongside other officials accused of instigating the protests that paralysed services at the health facility.
