Nairobi. KENYA: Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has thanked United Nations for honoring him.
UN-named Kipchoge their personality of the year during its 73rd-anniversary celebrations held at its Nairobi headquarters on Tuesday.
Kipchoge in his thankful message through his twitter handle wrote; ‘I am truly humbled to be named United Kenya person of the year, thank you UN for this great honor’’.
The 33-year-old was feted following his extraordinary performance and courage in the field and also standing strong to fight HIV/AIDS pandemic through initiatives.
Kipchoge, the 2016 Rio Olympic champion set a new world record in Marathon when he clocked 2:01:39 to win BMW Berlin Marathon September.
He is among the three Kenyan athletes that have been nominated for the IAAF 2018 award.
