Mombasa,KENYA:The meteorological department has issued an alert for heavy rains and strong winds which are expected to be experienced in parts of the Coast region over the next four days.

According to the alert issued on Tuesday, the rains would kickoff on Wednesday at highs of 30mm but go as high as 40mm on Thursday and Friday.

The counties expected to be affected are Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and Tana River.

The department has further cautioned residents to be on high alert as flash floods might be experienced in certain areas.

“People should avoid driving, wading or walking through fast-moving waters, The heavy rains and strong rains may result in a strong surge along the region,” The meteorological department said.

This comes just a day after the department cautioned marine navigators on the prevalence of high seas for the next four days due to the presence of high winds.

The winds are expected to be blowing from the South to the South East with knots as high as 24 knots and sea levels as high as 7 feet near the shores.

“Inexperienced marine sailors especially those operating smaller marine vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions, fishermen and other mariners should pay close attention to the marine forecast and consider wind and sea conditions before planning their activities” Reads part of the alert.
