Nairobi. KENYA: Football Kenya Federation has applauded the Confederation of African Football CAF following its decision to ban Equatorial Guinea from participating in this year’s Africa Women Cup of Nations AWCON.

FKF who lodged the appeal says the move should serve as an example to other nations who in many occasions have infringed the rules of the game.

“We are very excited with the ruling and that we might take two teams to AFCON. This is a culmination of the great work we have done for the last three years. If the girls finish in the top three, they will qualify for the World Cup next year,” Said FKF president Nick Mwendwa.

Equatorial Guinea was disqualified from the competition for fielding six ineligible players who featured in the last qualification matches following a protest from Kenya who lost 3-2 on aggregate.

The decision means Kenya’s national women’s team Harambee Starlets will be making their second appearance to this year’s Women African cup of Nations slated for November 17 to December 1 in Ghana.
