Kilifi, KENYA: Sabaki member of county assembly Edward Kazungu Dele will remain in custody over alleged incitement and illegal organization of demonstrations.

This was after Kilifi Senior Chief Magistrate Robinson Ondiek granted police a request to have Kazungu in custody awaiting his case mention on the 31st of this month.

Kazungu was arrested on Tuesday alongside than 40 residents over the invasion of the 900-acre Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) land in Kilifi.

Squatters have from the past fought to reclaim the land which they allege to have been grabbed by some influential persons.

Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo and Magarini MP Michael Kingi are some of the leaders who have tried to resolve the perennial land issue in the area.

The area MCA Edward Kazungu stated that he had sought the intervention of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), National Land Commission (NLC) and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) without success.

Efforts by the Kilifi County Assembly Speaker Jimmy Kahindi to have the MCA released before he was arraigned in court did not bear any fruit.
