The office of the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has ordered former sports cabinet secretary Hassan Wario charged over alleged misappropriation of the 2016 RIO Olympics funds.
In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, Noordin has said there is sufficient evidence to charge the former CS, ex sports PS Richard Ekai, former director of Administration in the ministry Harun Komen, Stephen Kiptanui deputy treasurer NOCK, Patrick Kimathi , former finance officer, Kipchoge Keino Former president NOCK, and Francis Kanyii the then secretary general NOCK.
The seven will be prosecuted over misappropriation of Sh.55 million in the Rio Olympics, for embezzlement of Sh. 22, 540, 800/=, purchase of air tickets amounting to 16, 872, 497/= which were not utilized, and incurring expenditure on an authorized persons amounting to 6, 590, 286/=
The DPP has further ordered the seven individuals to report to the DCI headquarters Monday next week.
Noordin has also ordered investigations into donations made to the National Olympics committee of Kenya NOCK, and contacts between NOCK and NIKE and the utilization of monies realized therefrom.
This comes just a few hours after former NOCK official Stephen Soi was arrested at his Muthaiga home.
