The African Music and Magazine Awards that went down at the House of blue in Texas over the Weekend saw several African artistes walk away winners with some big names walking away empty handed.
Under the Best rap act, Kenyan artiste Khaligraph Jones emerged victorious edging out established names like the multi award winning France based Guinean rapper MHD, who is the pioneer of Afrotap music and who has in the past done campaign songs for Real Madrid FC.
However, MHD who has a huge following in France and Francophone Africa did not walk away empty-handed as he won in the crossing boundaries with music category edging out rappers like UK based Ghanaian rapper Stormzy and French Montana who had also been nominated in the same category.
Khaligraph also floored rappers Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest from South Africa and Olamide and Phyno from Nigeria.
Under the best female East Africa, Ugandan artiste Sheebah Karungi emerged victorious flooring established names like Victoria Kimani , Vanessa Mdee and Akothee.
Under the best female South Africa, former African idols contestant Amara Brown from Zimbabwe emerged victorious flooring out big names like South Africa’s Bucie, Babes Wudumo and Busiswa.
Under the AFRIMMA achievers award, NBA Congolese basketball player Bismark Biyombo floored names like Kenya’s Lupita Nyongo , South Africa’s Trevor Noah and Blood Diamonds star Djimon Honsou.
Togolese boy group, Toofan, won in the best African group edging out names like Sauti Sol, South Africa’s Mafikizolo and Cameroon’s X- Maleya.
Closer back home, Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo floored both Diamond Platnumz and Ali Kiba emerging victorious in the Best East African act category.
African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) is the sole award ceremony in the Diaspora that caters to all African musical genres celebrating musical works, talents, and creativity around the world.
