Kilifi, KENYA:A policeman attached to Kijipwa police station in Kilifi County is currently on the run after a 14-year-old minor accused the policeman of defiling her.

The officer at the rank of a constable is alleged to have defiled the minor on Monday night when she spent a night at the police station.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations head in Kilifi county Mohamed Said, the victim had been earlier been raped by two men with one of the suspects even kidnapping her.

When she managed to escape,  she reported the matter and the children department went to the Shanzu law courts on Monday seeking a child protection order fearing that suspects who are still at large were planning to harm the girl.

However, the Shanzu law courts senior principal magistrate Diana Mochache ordered victim produced in court before she could issue a child protection order.

On Monday evening the minor was rescued and booked at the Kijipwa police station spending the night at the OB desk.

The victim then alleges that the officer who was on duty that night defiled her and gave her water to take bath.

However in the morning when the suspect’s colleague reported to work and the victim tried to report the matter, the colleague dismissed her saying she was not talking the truth.

It was not until on Tuesday when the victim was produced in court and a child protection order was issued that she revealed that a police officer attached to the station had defiled her.

Said added that they had launched a manhunt for the officer who they refused to name and the two others who were mentioned by the victim.

“Following a complaint by a minor who claims to have been defiled by a person whom she identified as a police officer, investigations have been launched. Right now all efforts are being made to look for him, we have sent out a signal about his disappearance,” Said told journalists in his office on Thursday.

The said police officer is said to have disappeared from the police station dressed in civilian clothes on Tuesday morning and on Wednesday morning when an identification parade to look for the suspect was called for, the suspected police officer did not show up.

However, child protection officers who have accused police officers of endangering the minors life have said that the minor is traumatized and needs counseling.
