Members of parliament have been recalled from their month-long recess for a special sitting on Tuesday and Thursday next week.
In a special gazette notice, the speaker of the national assembly Justin Muturi has stated the special sittings shall deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recommendations on the 16% VAT on fuel products.
The president on Friday recommended that the VAT be slashed by half, therefore making it 8% instead of 16%.
The notice came hours after President Uhuru rejected the Finance Bill 2018 presented to him on Thursday.
The assent of the bill would have seen the 16 percent tax on petroleum products halted until 2020.
The amended bill was passed by parliament on 30th August 2018.
