Fatuma Zarika set to defend title against Mexico’s Yamileth Mecardo

Nairobi, KENYA: Kenya’s re-known boxer and world bantamweight champion Fatuma Zarika is set to defend her title against Mexican Yamileth Mecardo at KICC on Saturday.

Zarika who has been in the UK for training is oozing confident she will nail her opponent down and lift the victory once again.

The 32-year-old, a mother of two has not been in the ring since last year December when she defeated Zambian Catherine Phiri by unanimous point decision to defend her bantamweight title at Carnivore grounds in Nairobi.

Zarika has never met her Mexican opponent but has gained a substantial amount of knowledge from her strength and weaknesses by watching her fights on Youtube.

The exemplary victory over Phiri in December earned her Head of State Commendation by President Uhuru Kenyatta when Kenya celebrated her 54th Jamhuri Day on December 12th.”Iron fist” as she is commonly known due to her weighty right hook is confident to record good performance in tomorrow’s fight.
