Mombasa to host Martial Art Championships

Mombasa,KENYA: Mombasa County will be hosting the Martial Art Championships AT Aga Khan Academy from 2nd to 11th of September.

The event will be the first ever of its kind to be held in Africa and will have more than 20 countries participating.

Kenya Tong-Il Mood-do Federation chairperson, Clarence Mwakio, said the tournament is open to all martial art sports including karate, tae-kwondo, judo, kung-fu, aikido, jiu-jitsu, ninjutsu, hapkido, capoeira, Japanese kendo and wushu.

Speaking at a press conference at the federation headquarters in Mombasa, Clarence, who is also the African martial art president, said the main event will go down on 8th and 9th.

“The tournament is meant to bring together participants from across the globe for 10 days to take part in training martial arts and learning character education,” Mwakio said.

Countries expected to take part in the competition include Thailand, US, UK, Paraguay, South Africa, Tanzania, Japan, Netherlands, Turkey, Kenya among others.

The competitors are as young as 8 year old boys and girls, women and men up to 55 years and individual teams in various categories.
