Nairobi,KENYA:Worry not about your fares, at least for now, parliament has suspended the implementation of the 16% petroleum levy for two years.

Members of parliament on Wednesday voted to suspend the levy which had caused quite a stir on social media from both service providers and users in the transport sector.

The amendment was brought on the finance bill by minority whip Junet Mohammed.

The levy which was to be implemented starting next month will now be implemented from 1st September 2020.

Motorists had last week threatened to park their cars and leave them on the roads as a move to protest the levy with the transport sector promising to hike fares from Saturday.
