Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has issued a warning to media houses running betting adverts on watershed time.
“KFCB will be stern on media houses that air betting and gambling adverts during the water-shed periods and before we do that let all the media house be responsible,” Dr Mutua said this week during a radio interview.
“All content meant for adults, including betting, should be aired outside the Watershed Period,” stated Mutua.
Dr. Ezekiel Mutua maintained that media should not thrive on sensational content but on wholesome content that educates the society saying that betting has led to young people committing suicide after losing bets, students squandering fees and others engaging in vices such as stealing.
“Betting creates the impression that there are quick fixes in life. This exalts laziness over hard work” stated Dr. Mutua.
According to the Communication Authority of Kenya family viewership, water-shed time is between 5am-10pm
