The immigration department has set up the hotline telephone number to help Kenyans report foreigners who are in the country without proper documents.
This comes barely a week after Interior Ministry Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ordered a crackdown to rid the country of illegal foreigners.
The crackdown is targeting all foreigners who failed to register afresh during a two months registration and vetting exercise that was set up to weed out illegal immigrants.
Those who failed to turn up for the exercise will be deported, with Matiang’i now wanting them to cover their own deportation expenses and those who cannot afford it to work for their tickets in jail.
“The country spends sh.360 million every year deporting people who are in the country illegally. We can do more with that money. I personally would like to discourage this idea of spending public resources to deport people,” the CS said.
