Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Mombasa have nabbed three robbery suspects along Moi Avenue.

Mombasa County commander Johnstone Ipara said that the suspects were arrested at 11:30am at Pembe za Ndovu area along Moi Avenue.

According to police, the suspects Teresia Wambui, Nancy Wanjiru and Daniel Kariuki confronted a lady who was coming from the bank to get a change of Sh.40,000 in 50 shillings denomination.

“They grabbed the lady, forced her into a white Toyota Fielder -plate number KCH 354E- which was waiting for them and tried to drive away with her using the wrong lane of road. Unfortunately they ramped into a tuktuk driving in the opposite direction before they were caught,” said Ipara.

Police said that the three who are suspected to have come from other counties have been stealing and robbing residents in Mombasa.

“We suspect somebody within town has been providing them with a place to eat and sleep, and that it might be a cartel,” said Ipara.

“We are looking for cartels who work with outsiders to cause havoc to people who work hard within the town,” he added.

Ipara said that the suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday and will face several charges including robbery with violence, causing accident, failing to stop after causing accident and also driving on wrong side of the road.

The suspects were not armed at the time were arrested.
