Commuters stranded in Kibarani after fuel wagon derails

Mombasa,KENYA: Hundreds of commuter were on Thursday morning stranded after a train carrying fuel derailed at Kibarani forcing a section of the road to be closed for traffic.

The most affected during the early morning rush were commuters making their way to work in the CBD and those heading to SGR terminus in Miritini.

The train was carrying 10,000 litres of fuel when the incident happened.

Officials from NEMA and Mombasa fire brigade arrived on the scene before quickly starting a decantation process of petrol from the derailed wagon.

This is the second train to derail at Kibarani in a month.

A KR wagon derailed a few meters from the same are three weeks ago,  spilling litres of petrol.
