Two police officers charged with murder of Janet Waiyaki at City Park

Nairobi, KENYA: Two police officers were on Monday charged at the Milimani High Court for the murder of Janet Wangui Waiyaki who was shot dead at City Park Nairobi last Month.

According to the Office of Director of Public Prosecution, the two William Kipkorir and Godfrey Kipng’etich Kirui jointly denied murdering the 41-year-old Janet Waiyaki when they appeared before Justice James Wakiaga.

“Prosecution said it had compelling reasons to oppose the release of suspects on bail.” Read a tweet from the ODPP.

The two have been remanded at Industrial Area remand prison till 19th June for the ruling on bail application.

The hearing of the case is set to commence on 20th November 2018.

On the day of the incident, the two Administration police officers were reported to have been conducting patrol when they spotted a black Toyota Fielder car with tinted windows parked at the park that arouse suspicion.

They approached the car which was parked at a forested section in the park and as per the police report, the officers received no response when they knocked on the window and instead the car sped off prompting the officers to open fire.

As a result, the two occupants 46-year-old Janet Wangui Waiyaki and Bernard Chege, 26 were injured and rushed to Avenue hospital where Janet was pronounced dead on arrival.
