One confirmed dead in Tana River Cholera outbreak

Tana River,KENYA:One person has been confirmed dead in the Cholera outbreak  that is currently  affecting villages in Madogo, Tana River county.

According to county health officials, This is the first case since the  outbreak was reported earlier in the month.

Tana River county executive for health and sanitation Ms Mwanajuma Mabuke confirmed the incident saying shortage of prophylactic drugs was hindering clinic from effectively combating the disease.

However Mwanjuma said that the county had procured a consignment  which is due to arrive this week.

78 cases have over the past week been confirmed at the County health headquarters in Hola .

The victims are being contained at Madogo health center  with health experts suspecting the outbreak to  have originated from a stagnant  well which villagers have constantly been using.

The county has already procured a water boozer to help minimize the incident of resident’s drinking water from the suspected water  wells.

Cholera cases have over the past  few years been reported in  Tana North and Tana Delta sub counties.

The villages affected are Bulakodha, Bulakaratasi, Bulavango and Madogo C and on Friday, the county said it would not  close eateries unless the outbreak warranted  for such an action.
