Mombasa,KENYA:Embattled Kenya ports Authority Managing director Catherine Mturi Wairi has resigned voluntarily days after a Mombasa court reinstated her as the managing director.

In a  her resignation letter seen by Baraka FM dated 8th June,  the  MD said she was resigning so as to pursue personal interests.

Her resignation comes just a day after nominated MP Maina Kamanda’s son Michael Maina was fired from the Kenya ports Authority board in a gazette notice dated 7th June .

Last week, members of the board including Maina who had to step in as the substantive chairman voted to send Ms Mturi on a compulsory leave due to incompetence and disappearance of containers from the port under her leadership.

Mr Maina who spoke after the board meeting told journalists that the decision to send Ms Mturi was due to lack of effective leadership.

This week before had seen a week-long breakdown of systems at the port that  paralyzed movement of cargo.

Earlier in the week a court in Mombasa  reinstated Mturi following a petition filed by  a Mombasa resident Emmanuel Kenga.

Kenya Ports Authority through their lawyer Cecil Miller later  filled a counter  petition seeking to quash the orders reinstating Ms Mturi.

Former National Construction Authority CEO Daniel Manduku  who was appointed as the MD on  an acting capacity has since assumed office.
