Zanzibar bound German plane aborts takeoff in Mombasa

Mombasa,KENYA:A Zanzibar bound German plane has aborted takeoff at the Moi International Airport Mombasa following engine problem airport officials have told Baraka FM.

The plane from German luxury airline Condor Flugdienst had landed at the airport at 6.00am from the German city of Frankfurt and was due for take off at 8.00am on Tuesday.

Walter Agong the Moi International Airport manager told Baraka FM that the pilot of the Boeing 767 aircraft aborted take off to have the aircraft checked.

“The plane landed at the airport in the morning From Frankfurt where some passengers disembarked and other boarded but as the plane was rolling at 8.00 am, the pilot realized that there was a problem with one of the engines so he had to abort take off,” Walter told Baraka FM.

Walter refuted reports from a section of the media that the aircraft had made an emergency landing after two crows were swallowed into its engine.

“The engine problem is still being fixed but no bird was found in the engine. All the passengers have safely disembarked from the aircraft” Walter added.

The airline said that 230 passengers and 10 crew were in the aircraft.

Airport officials said that some of the passengers had checked back at their hotel in Nyali, Mombasa.
