Kwale, KENYA: Kwale governor Salim Mvurya on Sunday endorsed his deputy for governor come 2022.
Although his announcement was not well received by some MCAs led by his close supporter Antony Yama of Kasemeni ward in Kinango, Mvurya said he has prepared his Deputy Fatuma Achani very well to hand over the baton of leadership upon the completion of his second and last term in 2022.
The governor said he is giving this direction of leadership as he finalizes his second term in office for a national position which he did not mention.
“Some people are saying Mvurya should keep quiet but I will not. I have prepared my Deputy Fatuma Achani very well to take over. If anybody has prepared their candidates too, let them come forward and tell us.”
“I have revealed my preferred choice and so, bring yours forward also, so that citizens can choose, don’t blame me for identifying my choice,” he said.
He said this in Mwaroni Msambweni at a function of official opening of an ECD school.
He said despite the fact that he is serving his second and final term, he will not relax but serve wananchi even more.
Mvurya added that his legacy of development has to be left in safe hands adding that Deputy Governor Achani who has been by his side throughout, has learnt the skills of leadership and is more prepared for the task ahead.
“People think it’s just empty talk to lead this county; leadership cannot be taken for granted; it needs serious strategies,” he concluded.
