Policewoman charged in court for soliciting sh.3,000 bribe

Mombasa, KENYA: A police sergeant was on Thursday charged in a Mombasa court for allegedly receiving a bribe.

It is alleged that Alice Nasiae Yaile a traffic police officer in a rank of sergeant, received sh.3000 from Mr.Mutisya Joseph Mulaki, so as to release his driving licence and insurance sticker which she had confiscated after his vehicle Toyota probox was involved in a non-injury road accident.

According to the preliminary investigations, the accused person had requested Mr.Mulaki to give her sh.5000 before she could release his documents.

Court heard that sergeant Yaile committed the offence on 17th May 2018 at Makupa police station in Mombasa.

She denied the charges before Mombasa principal magistrate Henry Nyakweba.

The court directed the accused person to be released on a surety bond of sh.100, 000 or cash bail of sh.30, 000.

The case will be mentioned on 11th June 2018.
