Mombasa, KENYA:Six people have been jailed for a month by a Mombasa court after they pleaded guilty for smoking shisha.
Among the six people to serve a month sentence or pay alternative fine of sh. 10,000 for smoking shisha, include two women and four men.
Four others pleaded not guilty to the charge of smoking shisha and court ordered them to be released on a surety bond sh.50, 000 each or cash bail of sh.10,000.
Court heard that on 21 May at about 2200hrs at Al-Khaleej café in sparki area in Mvita Sub County within Mombasa County, the accused were found smoking shisha contrary to section 163 of the public health act.
Three shisha pots were brought to court as evidence against the accused persons.
The government through the Ministry of public health early this year banned smoking of shisha through gazette notice No.292.
