Mombasa, KENYA: Kenya Revenue Authority has seized 21 motor vehicles with foreign numbers at the Coast region.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner for KRA Southern Region Mr. Nicholas Ngeera said that the impounded motor vehicles are estimated to be worth sh.30 million.

The vehicles were seized on Saturday in a swoop conducted by KRA enforcement units in the Coast Region.

They were later detained at Central police station in Mombasa after the owners failed to submit valid import documents to support the entry into the Country.

19 vehicles were seized in Mombasa County while the other three were seized at the border of Lunga Lunga and Taita Taveta County.

“The operation aimed at eradicating all forms of contraband including prohibited goods and motor vehicles imported into the country illegally,” said Ngeera.

Mr. Ngeera alleged that the owners of the vehicles have contravened section 117 of East African customs management community act 2004 and they will be prosecuted ones the investigations are through.
