Mombasa,KENYA:The Medina palms Watamu, Swahili beach hotel in Diani and Leopard beach resort in Diani have been rated as the best hotels in the region.
The three hotels are the only ones in the region that got a five rating with Leisure golf and beach ,Boaboab beach resort and Msambweni beach house and Private villa hotels in Kwale county receiving four star ratings.
In an event held at the English point marina on Friday hotels in the coast region received 1st to 5 star rating.
The event was convened by the Tourism Regulatory Authority who issued certificates and plaques to the hotels which were classified based on accommodation and catering facilities in the first ever classification scheme whose implementation began in 2015.
Speaking at the event,TRA chairperson TRA chairman Nyule Ngumbao cautioned establishments that were yet to be classified to do so stating they have 6 months to do so.
“Let it be known by all that classification of establishments is a mandatory requirement. Sooner than later our officers will be at hand to inspect any conferences/workshops and seminars being held within non-classified establishments.” The TRA chairperson said in a statement.
In Mombasa county, The English Point Marina ,Serena beach resort and Spa,Voyager beach resort ,Sarova Whitesands hotel and the Severin Sea lodge received four star rating while Bahari beach hotel and Royal court hotel received three star rating.
In Kilifi county Diamond dream of Africa hotel,Turtle bay resort and Silver Palms spa and resort received 4 star ratings.
TRA has just concluded a classification exercise of 170 Hotels in Nairobi, Mombasa, North and South Rift Kilifi,Nakuru, Kajiado, and Mount Kenya Region.
