Kigali, RWANDA: Rwanda Football Federation FERWAFA has confirmed the postponement of the 2018 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup which was scheduled to be staged in Kigali, Rwanda from May 12.

According to a statement by FERWAFA, the decision to suspend the tournament was reached on Tuesday due to the unavailability of hosting funds.

‘’We have not received funds to host the tournament from CECAFA as agreed last month despite repeated correspondences and calls to CECAFA Secretariat requesting hosting funds to be availed to ensure the smooth organization of the tournament,’’ read in part a statement by FERWAFA.

The Rwandese Football Federation however asserted that it will host the tournament upon reception of funds on a new date to be agreed between FERWAFA and CECAFA.

Meanwhile, the national women’s soccer team Harambee Starlets which has been in the camp in readiness for the tournament is likely to break as players return to their respective clubs for the upcoming premier league matches this weekend.
